can anyone tell me if the tag NICK is a level 2 tag with NAME as it's level 1 tag (as Family Historian says) or a level 1 tag ?

Mike,
NICK is a level 2 tag under NAME which is its level 1 tag. It is one of the personal name pieces that also include NPFX (name prefix), GIVN (given name), SPFX (surname prefix), SURN (surname) and NSFX (Name suffix).

Thanks , the program I am using (PediTree) uses it as a level 1 and I am trying to move my information to Family Historian that uses it as a level 2 under NAME as you state.
