It didn’t take long for you sharp folks to find two errors in Version 0.97 that demanded immediate fixing. If there is one thing I hate, it is a bug that produces a system error and prevents Behold from continuing. Well, here were two of them. You can now update to a version with the fixes.
If you ever find any operations that cause Behold to crash, please report them to me and I’ll do my best to fix them right away. Thanks go to Dirk and John for reporting these. The Version History page has a brief description of them.
What I realized from this is that my standard set of test GEDCOM files that I got from the web are not very good sample cases. The GEDCOMs that all of you produce are much richer in types of structure and use of different tags as it is obvious that you have all spent many hard years working to get a comprehensive family history put together, complete with sources, notes, pictures and anything and everything else.
I saw while fixing the bugs that the 0.97.1 version still is quite sloppy in the new parts of the Everything Report. I’m going to take about a week and try to clean that up. I’m going to use the GEDCOMs that those of you supplied me for testing purposes and make sure they work well. Then I’ll release another point release and go onto the final features before the beta release.
If any of you would like me to make sure Behold will work well for your GEDCOM file(s), I invite you now to e-mail them to me, and I’ll include them in my user test suite. I promise I will only use your GEDCOM for testing purposes and that is it. Your data can help me finish up the Everything report, and it will also help you by giving you a nice clean report right away that you can use. I’m only making this invitation now in my blog, but feel free to spread the news around if you want.
If you’ve already sent me a GEDCOM for testing, you don’t have to send me another one. I’ll use the one I have.
