Since I’ve decided on checking for a new version from Behold itself, rather than on the server, it makes sense to take that all the way now and implement the full web update. This will delay the point release to the beginning of April, but it won’t slow overall progress down, since I planned to do this in the 0.92 release anyway.
Implementing web update involves a few things in programming that I have not got into yet, but I have collected various articles and info about available components for this over the past few years. I am amazed that there are about 20 different web update components you can buy for Delphi to do this, ranging from $20 to $400 with a wide range of options. Everyone seems to have their own solution. In my case, I’m sure I’ve got enough material to get a nice web update made on my own within a couple of days, and I’ll be able to customize it exactly how I want it.
