I needed to get a new version out fast. My last blog post says how I left one statement too many in the RelativesThroughMarriage routine. And the post previous to that says how I out-thought myself with my AutoOrganize function.
So you’ve got a new version, for the first time in years, that has changes in functionality in the menus and toolbars. This breaks the documentation for these functions, but that shall be updated soon towards the end of the beta.
In the meantime, it is worthwhile to describe the changes. The easiest way is to look at the part of the toolbar that changed.
Before:
After:
The first thing I did was move the RM (Relatives through Marriage) and EE (Everyone Else) buttons with the Tags and Reference buttons. Those four are your basic selection of what you want to see in the Everything Report. These buttons are important and useful, and grouping them together gives them more prominence and makes them easier to access.
Next to those, I’ve moved the Add Family and Instant Organize buttons. Those allow you to select the families you want to view.
Finally, I’ve placed 3 new functions to allow you specify how to organize the people within each family. The “A” is to sort Down From Ancestors, the “S” is to sort by Surname, and the “U” is to sort Up From Ancestors. These were previously only available on the Organize->Numbering page, but have taken on more importance now, since the Instant Organize button no longer changes the within family ordering for you. They were also previously called “Ancestors”, “Surnames” and “Ahnentafel” ordering, but those were less clear, and the use of “Ahnentafel” for an ordering was in fact wrong.
Regarding Instant Organize, I liked the one button to do everything: organize around someone, turn off RM and EE, and change the within family ordering to Up to Ancestors. But I’m certain that doing this was confusing to some people. So this version I’ve changed this and now it ONLY does the organization around the person you select. It now will use the other settings that exist and won’t change them. But I’m still not sure about this. If you liked it better the other way, please let me know. It can be changed back easily. But I do only want to implement it one way or the other.
Removed from the menu was the “A” Auto Organize function (actually the graphic was reused for Down From Ancestors). Now Behold uses the first person in the file (and their spouse) to organize from. You can easily change that via the Add Family or Instant Organize buttons and if you save it as a Behold file, your custom organization can easily be used again.
Also removed is the “R” Reorganize function. You can easily reorganize by simply reloading the file.
And the 3rd function gone is the “double-arrows” Refresh. A long time ago, the RM and EE buttons wouldn’t take effect until Refresh button was pressed. That was to save time if you wanted to do both functions. But due to Behold’s speed improvements during the beta, it’s fast and easy enough to just press the two buttons and you’re done.
The full list of changes this version on on the Behold History page.
Any comments or suggestions regarding all this will be much appreciated.

Louis,
This is the best you have done with the everything report. Fantastic!! It makes so much more sense and is totally logical in approach. Thanks so much for Tamura and his comments. And to you for the change. You are ready for version one in my opinion.
Herb…
Any bugs that may crop up will be insignificant when compared to this change.
