Maybe I can have my cake and eat it too.

As part of moving the hyperlinks from the ID numbers to the names, I simplified the ID numbers to be a sequential number and made them a suffix to the name, e.g. John Smith-143. That has been nagging me for the last month, because there is some usefulness in having the Family ID or the GEDCOM ID or the Family Surname as a reference for the person. It puts the person in context, especially when you are looking in the Name Index, Place Index, and other reference sections. You can use them to remind you where they fit in.

So why not just follow the name with the full ID number as desired, e.g. John Smith BLA-25. The hyperlink will still be on the name, and I’ll put in an option for those who don’t want to see it, to not show the numbering at all. That will keep me very happy, because I didn’t want to lose those full IDs, and now I won’t.
