Well, I started setting up my new computer. I figured it would be easier to set up everything if I had the two computers running side by side on my desk. However I had one problem: 2 computers and 1 monitor.

My first thought was to use Microsoft’s free Remote Desktop tool that comes with Windows XP so that I could view and control my old computer from my new one. One problem: It cannot be used to control Windows 98 machines. So I searched for some other remote control software. There is a lot of it out there!

What I found was a top-rated shareware program called Remote Administrator. This program has three features I deemed important: (1) It’s fast, (2) it’s secure, and (3) it’s very easy to use. I downloaded the free trial copy. After I got my new computer network and internet connected, I tried it out.

Believe it or not, I’m writing this blog entry now from my new computer in a window that is running my html editor (Homesite) on my old computer. Two computers, one screen! In the next day or two, I’ll be able to install all my software on my new machine and be able to check back and forth to see that my settings are the way I had them customized.

If I continue to use this Remote Administrator program after the 30 days, I’ll definitely purchase it for $35. Even if I don’t, I might just register it anyway because the author deserves it!

Setting up my new computer will take a couple of days, so Behold will fall a couple of days behind. But that lost time should be made up over the next month or by the increased productivity the new machine will give me.
