German Umlaute - Forum post by lkessler in Report a Problem - 18 Dec 2013

From what I understand, Legacy doesn't support Unicode. According to an article on Legacy 7 by Tamura Jones: "Legacy is still a codepage-based design. Legacy does still not support Unicode, and that automatically limits its support for other characters sets. Legacy will export to and import from ANSEL and ...

Ahnentafel report - Forum post by lkessler in Questions and Answers - 7 Nov 2013

Palou, The families can be ordered in an Ahnentafel ordering by pressing the upside down A button on the toolbar ("Up to Organize" on the Organize menu). But Behold is family-based and shows organizations of families, and does not in its current form allow the display of just a certain set of selected people. ...

Missed target releases - Forum post by lkessler in Questions and Answers - 26 Sep 2013

Will, Thanks for asking. I'll have to blog something soon. Life has been very busy for me recently with a lot of personal and family stuff going on that has slowed me down (including building a fence). An article I wrote for an Australian genealogy magazine on genealogy software will be published next month, ...

GEDCOM 5.5EL - Forum post by lkessler in Questions and Answers - 5 Sep 2013

Klemens, Thank you for the link to those files. I've now added them to my test suite for Behold. The _LOC records that are at level 0 should not be giving Undefined Records. I have tested only a few GEDCOM 5.5EL files since I haven't been able to find very many of them. And those were extremely simple ones. For ...

UTF-8 with BOM does not display right - Forum post by lkessler in Report a Problem - 5 Sep 2013

Klemens, Yes, I can replicate the problem. Thank you for pointing it out. I did some debugging and I think I've found the mistake I made. It was bit dumb on my part. This was my checking code: else if GedcomCharsetUsed = 'UTF-8' then begin CharConvert := ConvertUTF8; ...

Update Box not complete - Forum post by lkessler in Report a Problem - 17 Aug 2013

axsc: I believe I have fixed the bug and the fix will be in the next version (hopefully 1.1). I believe it happens you have selected large fonts. Unfortunately, this means all existing versions out there will have this bug. For now, you can try changing from large fonts to regular, do the upgrade, and change ...

NICK tag - Forum post by lkessler in Questions and Answers - 12 Jun 2013

Mike, NICK is a level 2 tag under NAME which is its level 1 tag. It is one of the personal name pieces that also include NPFX (name prefix), GIVN (given name), SPFX (surname prefix), SURN (surname) and NSFX (Name suffix). Louis

UI improvements - Forum post by lkessler in Feature Suggestions - 2 Jun 2013

hsm: Fixed up your typos for you. I wish I could allow 5 minute edits into posts. I have attempted to add that to my forums adapting some AJAX plugins, but I haven't been able to get any to work smoothly yet. Re chess programming, see my past life: http://www.lkessler.com/brutefor.shtml

5.5.1 compliant GEDCOM file - Forum post by lkessler in General Discussion - 2 Jun 2013

Yes, the difficulty in checking GEDCOM is that what is valid in one version is not necessary in another. And the specs are not unambiguous and miss things in their specifications. The bigger problem occurs when a program writes GEDCOM 5.5 and says it is 5.5.1 or vice versa.

UI improvements - Forum post by lkessler in Feature Suggestions - 1 Jun 2013

hsm: 1. To load the last file, I always click on the Open icon drop down and select the first file listed. I personally find that easy and quick. 2. Well Behold does have a Reload command under the Organize menu, which is the icon with the "R" in it. But I set it up so that it is inactive until you reorganize ...
