Your DNA Raw Data May Have Changed - Blog comment by yinwang888 - 20 Nov 2021

Very nice write up. Thanks! Do you think it's possible that some of the changes you observe are because of changes in the underlying rsid SNP database? I have in my own research sometimes stumbled on SNP rsids that where merged or renamed. Do you make your comparisons based on rsid or position?

Comparing Raw Data from 5 DNA Testing Companies - Blog comment by lkessler - 10 Nov 2021

tsturg: Yes. See my blog post from 10 Apr 2020: Determining the Accuracy of DNA Tests: https://www.beholdgenealogy.com/blog/?p=3305 - I've now added this into my "followups" at the end of the article.

Comparing Raw Data from 5 DNA Testing Companies - Blog comment by tsturg - 1 Nov 2021

I just recently purchased a 23andMe kit. I came across this article as I searched for information on how it compares to other DNA kits. Do you have an update on getting your full genome back and being able to compare your combined SNP’s?

Can GEDCOM 7.0 Succeed? - Blog comment by acproctor - 20 Oct 2021

In principle. HTML defines the structure of the text (paragraphing, footnotes, etc) and it would be up to some CSS to style it -- "punctuation" is essential in anything worth reading, and so I'm guessing that the wrong word was chosen above. However, a possibility that isn't mentioned anywhere that I can see ...

Genealogists: Do Your Biographies! - Blog comment by cjkotecki - 1 Jul 2021

Thanks for describing the benefits of writing biographies, whether at Wikitree or anywhere. I started writing biographies at Wikitree because my now deceased cousin left behind hundreds of them, for everyone we were related to, from data she had gathered through interviews and local records that are not ...

Can GEDCOM 7.0 Succeed? - Blog comment by cconser - 22 Jun 2021

Mr. Kessler: I think you misunderstood me. I agree with you that formatting has no place in GEDCOM and was not advocating for it. Thanks for pointing me to your interesting article. Your suggestion for a defined library of source element tags is an elegant solution that GEDCOM sorely needs.

Can GEDCOM 7.0 Succeed? - Blog comment by lkessler - 22 Jun 2021

cconser: I am strongly of the opinion that formatting and punctuation have no place in GEDCOM. GEDCOM is for transferring data. Formatting and punctuation should be left up to your software. It should decide how it wants to display something. You should not force anything on it. See my article: ...

Can GEDCOM 7.0 Succeed? - Blog comment by cconser - 22 Jun 2021

Thanks again. My main problem with GEDCOM's source tags/fields is that genealogists use such a variety of sources that it is nearly impossible to anticipate them using a few fields - even given the flexibility of the PAGE tag. The biggest restraint for me is formatting and punctuation. For example, layered ...
