Behold Database Plans - Forum post by lkessler in General Discussion - 15 Jun 2019
I have done some deep thinking about what would be best for Behold for its database. I had debated with myself whether to use SQLite or go NoSQL.
Since then, I have become one of the 96 million people who have subscribed to and started using MyHeritage's online website. They have a free program Family Tree ...

Finally, Interesting Possibilities to Sync Your Data - Blog comment by lkessler - 30 May 2019
Justin. Yes it's dangerous if not done carefully. For shared trees like Family search, it would need to mimic the manual method a person would have to do it, and ask the exact questions that the online tree would ask. It should not allow new people to be added or people to be deleted without properly verifying ...

Finally, Interesting Possibilities to Sync Your Data - Blog comment by lkessler - 21 May 2019
Keith: It wouldn't make sense for MacKiev to get rid of Sync. The only reason would be if Ancestry no longer let them do it. I hope Ancestry opens up their API to other developers in the future. It's a shame that only FTM and RootsMagic are given access to it.

Finally, Interesting Possibilities to Sync Your Data - Blog entry by lkessler - 17 May 2019
Although I don’t use Family Tree Maker (FTM), per se, I am very interested in its capabilities and syncing abilities. FTM along with RootsMagic are the only two programs that Ancestry have allowed to use the API that gives them access to the Ancestry.com online family trees. Therefore they are the only two ...

Determining VCF Accuracy - Blog entry by lkessler - 13 May 2019
In my last post, I was able to create a raw data file from the Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) BAM file using the WGS Extract program. It seemed to work quite well. But my previous post to that: WGS – The Raw VCF file and the gVCF file, I was trying to see if I could create a raw data file from the Variant ...

Creating a Raw Data File from a WGS BAM file - Blog entry by lkessler - 12 May 2019
I was wondering in my last post if I could create a raw data file that could be uploaded to to GEDmatch or DNA testing company from my Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) results. I was trying to use one of the Variant Call Format (VCF) files. Those only include where you vary from the human reference. So logically ...

WGS – The Raw VCF file and the gVCF file - Blog entry by lkessler - 7 May 2019
As I noted in my last post, Whole Genome: The VCF File, Part 2, the SNP VCF (Variant Call Format) file that Dante Labs gives tester of WGS (Whole Genome Sequencing), does not quite have everything that is needed to generate a raw data file that can be uploaded to various DNA sites for people matching. ...

Combine Kits into One Superkit on GEDmatch Genesis - Blog comment by lkessler - 6 May 2019
spmcdonald: GEDmatch does not have a tool for that.
If you have 3 or more uncles or aunts who are all siblings, then you should use Visual Phasing to identify all their grandparents: https://thegeneticgenealogist.com/2016/11/21/visual-phasing-an-example-part-1-of-5/
If you have the raw data of any close ...

My Whole Genome Sequencing. The VCF File - Blog comment by lkessler - 6 May 2019
Bizlovr: These files are not easy to work with. I'm trying to directly analyze them myself (I have some skills with this sort of analysis) since I don't like the black box analysis tools that the genomic genealogists use. Getting down and dirty and playing with the ants is easier for me than just getting ...
