UTF-8 with BOM does not display right - Forum post by klemens in Report a Problem - 5 Sep 2013

Hi Louis, I tried opening a GEDCOM file with umlauts in Behold 1.0.5.1. Instead of the umlauts, boxes were displayed. The file was UTF-8 with BOM. When I converted it to UTF-8 without BOM, everything was fine. Also, Unicode (UTF-16) was fine, too. Can you replicate this? Klemens

Update Box not complete - Forum post by axsc in Report a Problem - 17 Aug 2013

Louis, I reinstalled Behold from scratch, and it picked up my license okay, so it's functioning normally. However, I should have mentioned that I have it set to Medium font size (always have), so it wasn't that. Now have the "this is the latest version" dialog box showing, so there won't be anything to see ...

Update Box not complete - Forum post by lkessler in Report a Problem - 17 Aug 2013

axsc: I believe I have fixed the bug and the fix will be in the next version (hopefully 1.1). I believe it happens you have selected large fonts. Unfortunately, this means all existing versions out there will have this bug. For now, you can try changing from large fonts to regular, do the upgrade, and change ...

Update Box not complete - Forum post by axsc in Report a Problem - 17 Aug 2013

I've also just discovered the same problem when wanting to upgrade from 1.0.4 to 1.0.5.1. The box isn't displaying the update button. It IS displaying Download Progress (zero, alas), so it looks as if this box might be one that should display once the update is running. In which case we've bypassed the ...

NICK tag - Forum post by lkessler in Questions and Answers - 12 Jun 2013

Mike, NICK is a level 2 tag under NAME which is its level 1 tag. It is one of the personal name pieces that also include NPFX (name prefix), GIVN (given name), SPFX (surname prefix), SURN (surname) and NSFX (Name suffix). Louis

UI improvements - Forum post by lkessler in Feature Suggestions - 2 Jun 2013

hsm: Fixed up your typos for you. I wish I could allow 5 minute edits into posts. I have attempted to add that to my forums adapting some AJAX plugins, but I haven't been able to get any to work smoothly yet. Re chess programming, see my past life: http://www.lkessler.com/brutefor.shtml

5.5.1 compliant GEDCOM file - Forum post by lkessler in General Discussion - 2 Jun 2013

Yes, the difficulty in checking GEDCOM is that what is valid in one version is not necessary in another. And the specs are not unambiguous and miss things in their specifications. The bigger problem occurs when a program writes GEDCOM 5.5 and says it is 5.5.1 or vice versa.

5.5.1 compliant GEDCOM file - Forum post by hsmyers in General Discussion - 2 Jun 2013

Louis, I got to looking at the list while repairing it and noticed that the line that says: *** Line 36: Tag NOTE is not allowed under SUBM is quite clearly in-correct! Certainly allowed under 5.6 and 5.5.1 (which I use) but not allowed under 5.5. Makes me wonder how they parse the ...
