WGS – The Raw VCF file and the gVCF file - Blog comment by lkessler - 28 Jun 2019

ljonas1: It's too bad, but it looks like when they made the change, they also added security, so you can no longer download the file directly from a link any more. So the only way to get your raw VCF file now might be to contact Dante and ask them for it.

WGS – The Raw VCF file and the gVCF file - Blog comment by ljonas1 - 28 Jun 2019

I want to get the raw.snp.vcf.gz, but now that they changed the website, there is no longer a link. You just directly download. Do you know what the URL was?

Finally, Interesting Possibilities to Sync Your Data - Blog comment by lkessler - 30 May 2019

Justin. Yes it's dangerous if not done carefully. For shared trees like Family search, it would need to mimic the manual method a person would have to do it, and ask the exact questions that the online tree would ask. It should not allow new people to be added or people to be deleted without properly verifying ...

I get the impression that you're advocating automatic sync (upload) to online trees. That's dangerous, particularly for shared trees. In fact, FamilySearch doesn't allow automatic writes. I believe the review process in RootsMagic for sending changes up to FamilySearch is largely mandated by FamilySearch.

Finally, Interesting Possibilities to Sync Your Data - Blog comment by lkessler - 21 May 2019

Keith: It wouldn't make sense for MacKiev to get rid of Sync. The only reason would be if Ancestry no longer let them do it. I hope Ancestry opens up their API to other developers in the future. It's a shame that only FTM and RootsMagic are given access to it.

Finally, Interesting Possibilities to Sync Your Data - Blog comment by geneatech - 19 May 2019

In a comment on my GenealogyTools blog, Jack Minsky, president of Software MacKiev, said, "FamilySync is very much a part of FTM 2019 and will continue to provide syncing with your Ancestry trees." So that's good news, and even better is that TreeVault is a new feature, although it will require a subscription.

Finally, Interesting Possibilities to Sync Your Data - Blog comment by geneatech - 18 May 2019

I agree that the ability to sync with multiple services is crucial. I was a beta tester for AncestorSync and was very disappointed when it failed. Regarding FTM 2019, there was no mention in Software MacKiev's announcement whether the FamilySync feature would continue, or if the new TreeVault feature is ...

Combine Kits into One Superkit on GEDmatch Genesis - Blog comment by lkessler - 6 May 2019

spmcdonald: GEDmatch does not have a tool for that. If you have 3 or more uncles or aunts who are all siblings, then you should use Visual Phasing to identify all their grandparents: https://thegeneticgenealogist.com/2016/11/21/visual-phasing-an-example-part-1-of-5/ If you have the raw data of any close ...
